AABC Diversity & Inclusion Scholarships

About AABC Diversity & Inclusion Scholarships

The U.S. maternity care system is failing our mothers and newborns with significant disparities associated with race, poverty, and access to quality care. Through the federal Strong Start for Mothers and Newborns Initiative and other research, birth centers have been identified as a maternity care model with large potential impact to improve health outcomes for all women including those with the greatest disparities.

The American Association of Birth Centers is committed to improving diversity and inclusion at all levels of our organization. Since 2018, we have awarded 24 Diversity & Inclusion scholarships to attend the AABC Birth Institute thanks to the generosity of donors like you. Scholarship recipients have fully engaged at this annual birth center convention and have left inspired, connected, and committed.

For example, Trinisha Williams, CM, attended the Birth Institute with a Diversity & Inclusion scholarship in 2018. After the conference, she joined two AABC committees and now she serves on the AABC Board of Directors. She has said, "Receiving a scholarship from AABC opened the door to understanding the birth center community and connecting with colleagues who support physiologic birth."

Your donation will be used to award full scholarships to attend the 2020 Birth Institute! Each AABC Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship includes a conference registration, travel stipend, ticket to the AABC Foundation's Gala to Grow Birth Centers, and a one-year Individual membership to AABC.
